SIHH 2019: Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute line, live shots

Jan 21, 2019,04:09 AM

Friends,

since a few years, the Laureato has taken centrepiece of the GP collection. Not everyone I guess finds that a good move, but it is what it is, so no surprise that this year again, most novelty hype was around the Laureato.

This year, GP released a complete new interpretation of the Laureato, labelled the „Absolute“.

Let’s share 3 live shots of the three versions, the Absolute (time-only), the Chronograph and the WW.TC.

All sport a larger titanium case with black DLC coating, a rubber strap with Titanium end attachment, blue stitching and big letter brand name on the strap.

The dials have a deep blue, sunburst effect paint, but not like a traditional sunburst, more modern. The dial also has a sandwich, double-layer design such that the indexes are cut out from the top layer.

Anyways, I will come back with a more detailed review, so for now enjoy the live shots. These watches are very difficult to capture well, but I tried my best under less than ideal conditions.

I’m not yet sure where GP is going with these new models, I will still need a bit of time to reflect on them to form an opinion.

Best,

Did you happen to see the new carbon glass case?

I like these pieces...

certainly the blacked out, flattened sunburst, modernity of them. However, I wonder about G-P's constant push for the Laureato. Are they trying to create a Royal Oak line for themselves; where there is just a plethora of variations of the same model? How ...

I think Girard-Perregaux is heading the right way... at least in some parts of the world. I've heard the Laureato is selling quite well and I think this line will do decent, too.

People will say they're imposing Audemars Piguet but it's not like they didn't do the same once with that rubber on gold from Hublot... The look of the models are fine, just not exactly my cup of tea. Other than that I don't understand why they're wasting...

Thank you for these live shots, CC!

Must say I am a bit surprised... Not that the focus is on the Laureato, but the fact that GP opted for black DLC cases. A trend we saw faded some years ago already... If black ceramic cases I would have been less surprised. These I think one need to see i...

The Laureato line from previous years and....

this year is a direct competitor to the Royal Oak line from AP, at half the price they are a great alternative imo. S

If the Royal Oak is not the competition then who is?

I know of many below 40 buyers who were considering a basic Royal Oak but opted for a Laureato as they felt it was better value for money for a great design. I can't see who else can be a competitor except for all the Genta masterpieces like the Nautilus,...

Thanks CJ and we know GP reads us here

I think time will tell how these models are accepted. I do share some of your concerns. CC
