looking for something different
I've got two vintage Calatravas in white and yellow gold, and keen to get a chronograph
I would love to get a Patek 5170G with the black dial, sadly that's a fair bit more than a new/secondary market GP chrono. ALS is next obvious choice, but pricing is still probably a tad outside where I'd be comfortable. Vacheron is 2/3mm too big and not worth it, assume there's less of a bath on resale (if it were to occur)
Not a fan of Daytonas for some reason, I tend to stick to dress watches. Also, I reckon there's a huge bubble in vintage Rolex pricing, I saw the 6538 (lot 37) sell for over US$250k last night... definitely concerning
Kind of led me to GP which seemed relatively affordable... and still look pretty good compared to Vacheron/JLC. Wouldn't put it close to Patek or ALS
Thoughts on GP 1966 column wheel chrono pricing?
I'm looking at potentially buying a rose gold, grey dial version of the manual winding GP chrono Any idea on pricing? Retail in Australia is A$53k... hoping to get well inside of that, happy with looking for a secondary market option as well from the US/H...
It is a pretty nice watch. The only concern is the presence of the date.
Some of us prefer the dial of the 1966 Automatic Chrono. Now, as for the price, it all dépends on what you are ready to pay for, related to the love you can feel for this Watch. Very subjective. Best, Nicolas
I don't mind the date window, although no date and 39mm would be perfect
I'm probably not as fussed on the date window, I actually miss having a date window somewhat on my current watch, but agreed it probably doesn't add very much, but only potentially detracts. The GP without a date window would almost remind me of a Ref 507...

A nice watch but...
Clearly the movement is too small for the case and I can say too small for today's standards. It is due to the roots of the movement. But the watch is nice. I would love to see a LE without date and with a smaller case. Fx

I personally would skip GP and go straight to the top of the class by selecting A.Lange or a Patek with annual calendar, used and have enough change for a Rolex Daytona. But if you must have a GP, buy secondhand and let someone else take the bath known as...

both dials are great
I liked the cream dial as well, it looked more traditional and understated whereas the grey dial is a tad more casual
