A night with Girard-Perregaux
Nov 08, 2018,21:25 PM
Great people. Great conversation. Master watchmaking class. Beautiful dinner and wine and lots of laughs. Forgive me as I am not a photographer and take seriously crap photos and very few at that, but I don’t lack for passion. I have an entirely new and tremendous respect for GP’s haute horologie collection. The attention to detail, finishing, sounds of the minute repeaters and polishing are all tops. Special thank to RDV and Fabrice Dangeli for sharing his knowledge and Girard-Perregaux’s history and philosophy with passion. A few wrist shots:
This first one will haunt me....
Drool. This is the white gold version and the sound is round, loud and clear. The titanium version sounded even better, but aesthetically this one haunts me a lot. I really like it on my wrist!
Vintage hacking seconds pocket watch. I would love to commission one for my son and one for my daughter engraved ..... one day.
Two weeks for a master watchmaker to polish three bridges alone. I polished one side of one bridge very poorly after a couple glasses of wine. Oops. I won’t let you see the result
Constant Force Escapement from behind.
Three bridges Tourbillon from behind.
Part of the kit. Honestly, I was a danger to myself and everyone around me just holding the pocket knife. Some people have the hands of a surgeon. I have the hands of a pinball machine champion.
I love the constant force 8 days. Philosophically, this is everything I admire about watchmaking. Totally different interpretation, but it reminds me of the purpose behind the Lange PLM. Unfortunately at 46mm the watch was wearing me and not the reverse. Some pictures of it farther down the wrist weren’t bad from a size perspective, but were even more distorted so I didn’t post.
Thanks for looking. Happy Friday to all.
