Great report Nicolas and one question...

May 01, 2012,08:43 AM

What a beautiful minute repeater GP has produced for the 1966 collection. You did a great job covering the details of this piece inside and out. Is the movement manufactured by GP, or have they outsourced some of the production?

Best,

Mike

GP 2012 SIHH: The 1966 Minute Repeater.

Minute Repeaters and Girard Perregaux are not a recent story... Some you may not have in mind, were made as early as 1850, like this " Tact " pocket watch, which strikes the quarters, by Jean François Bautte & Co: Or this hunter case with quarter hour...

GP did obviously a great job on this watch.

As I wrote in my SIHH report, the way they finished the Fabrique du Temps movement is really impressive. They improved it also and the way the key parts are opened leads to a true joy for the eyes. From my side, I didn't find the regulator too noisy. Or I...

you're right, I heard many other MRs which were more " noisy ".

 By: amanico : May 1st, 2012-14:39
And a few which were less noisy. But you know the story very well. When we love a brand we are much more demanding than with the brands we don't care about. Best, Nicolas.

You've got me interested...

Girard Perregaux is often overlooked in the world of haute horlogerie and too often under-appreciated. I see an attractive minute repeater, with an excellent designed integrated movement. The movement appears to be very well finished through the photograp...

I would love to hear its sound...I will investigate around here... Is the domed back sapphire a problem for comfort in wearing, Nico? I imagine it will be great for the sound, but it "sounds" at odds with comfort... I cannot appreciate in the photographs ...

Back was domed to enhance the air circulation

... and so to improve the sound quality. No problem about comfort on the wrist. Fx

Great report Nicolas and one question...

Thanks, Mike.

As for your question, GP doesn't hide the fact they used a movement from the Fabrique Du Temps. Best, Nicolas.

Thank you Nicolas for such a wonderful and detailed

article. I am requesting a sound file if possible on the 1966, please. Also, I know that you are as addicted as I am to the white metals, but for the best sound quality that I have experienced first hand, the red gold has the best resonance. Take care, Ti...

Honestly I didn't find any difference between Rose Gold and White Gold cases.

 By: amanico : May 1st, 2012-14:37
In terms of acoustics, of course. I will ask fpr a soundfile to my friendly contact at GP. Will see what he says and keep you updated. Best, Nicolas

Thank you Nicolas, the sound files now are usually

quite good and really gives you a full understanding of how GP gives us such a unique tone. I have definitely experienced a difference in tone with RG and other metals, but not on GP, so I will not rush to judgement. I am a big WG fan as you know, so this...

Here is a movie I did Tim.

Wow! That is a great sound, very round, clear and

 By: timerider : May 5th, 2012-10:37
a distinctive chime, not fuzzy or muffled like a few others. Thank you very much for the look and listen, really helps. Best to you, Tim

Be careful...

 By: foversta : May 5th, 2012-10:40
The watch was put on an amplificator to shoot the movie which is mandatory during the fair due to the noisy place. But you can have an idea! I find the sound clear but the pace of the notes is a bit too high for me. Best regards. Fx

Understood and Merci.

Therefore, any sound file cannot compete with a real experience

To fully appreciate the " true acoustical signature " of a Minute Repeater. Best, Nicolas

Beautiful post.

...my winner of this latest SIHH. I love the watch's elegance and the way its "simple" dial hides all the rich technical and artistic mastery of the movement. I honestly LOVE this watch. Pure GP in every way! Your article was a pleasure to read, and you w...

Pure GP in every way... I concur.

 By: amanico : May 1st, 2012-23:33
A simple and sober look at the service of a superb complication. I wrote this review 3 months ago, and I will not change a world. One of my 2 or 3 faovurite watches from the SIHH, and may I add, from the Basel Fair, too. My only regret is that GP will mov...

I love the simplicity of the design of this watch.

 By: docsnov : May 2nd, 2012-14:36
It puts all the focus on the repeater function while playing the role of a simple dress watch. I think it is cool when a high complication is not readily apparent, as with a tourbillon that is only displayed on the back of the watch. The movement is beaut...

It seems that we share the same reasons.

 By: amanico : May 2nd, 2012-21:36
That is exactly why I love this GP. Simple, but how sophisticated, from its enamel dial to its complication and finish, of course. An excellent Minute Repeater. I am just eagerly waitnig to see it in white metal... Best, Stewart, and thanks for your input...

That half arrow bridge is quite the nice touch...

 By: Echi : May 2nd, 2012-20:26
signature indeed and they play that card very well. nothing to fault with this piece. very beautiful. thanks for this report... "well-finished" as usual

Wonderful report, Nicolas!

A stunning watch! About the three bridges... I was browsing thru a GP catalogue from the mid 1950's and saw this. Best, my friend Blomman...

Now, we are playing on some very dangerous grounds, with the 3 GBs.

I tell you, my friend, this configuratuion is one of the most desirable I know, in the wrold of Haute Horlogerie. At least, from my point of view. As for this Minute Repeater, this is something to live in the real life. An unforgettable experience. Best, ...

I believe you, my friend! :)

Haven't seen any of them in real. But I guess that is better for my heart that way...! Best Blomman

Be prepared to an unforgettable experience, my friend.

Please! :)

From one of our favorite brands! Nicolas your simply fantastic. You enrich so many collectors with your reports and attention to detail. I am grateful for your passion! Have a great weekend my friend, Edmond

My pleasure, Edmond. Thank you so much for your kind comments.

It is always easy to write on a watch when it is that beautiful. To say all, I am unable to wrtie bsomething on a watch I don't :like. Best, Edmond. Nicolas

GP is such an under appreciated maker....

 By: Moses : May 6th, 2012-00:22
Great post. For me the finest watch of the recent fairs. GP should be so much more successful than they appear to be. Their high end pieces are stunning, but they could really use a larger base movement and a manual wind integrated chronograph. And perhap...

Could not agree more......

 By: Fesalu : May 31st, 2012-04:44
Their 1966 range is such a beautiful collection of watches. It evokes a warm sense of tradition, but "under the bonnet" it has some serious engineering to back it up.
