From a local--here are some of my faves

First, agree with Bavette's as the best steakhouse in Chicago.  But, if you can't get in--which is hard--go to Maude's Liquor Bar.  Same owners and similar food.  Plus you can get in!  Also agree with Purple Pig.  As for others (in no particular order):  Au Cheval (burger) Smith and Loyalist, Maple and Ash, Lou Malnatis (Chicago pizza), Sunda, Giant, City Mouse, Tufano's, Kuma's Corner, Frontera Grill, and Bang Bang Pie.  There really are so many great options.  These are just some of my personal favorites.
