Continuing with my work from home theme. This time a Journe which I think will make Mike a little happier as I told him last week that it’s been several weeks since I’ve worn a watch!!!
The Vagabondage, specifically the Vagabondage II which is defined by its jumping hours and jumping minutes. Announced in 2009 (if memory serves me correctly) this was the second in what we now see as the Vagabondage trilogy.
There are 69 pieces in PT and 68 in Rose Gold (like mine) and 10 pieces in PT with baguette diamonds on the bezel and lugs. I have to admit, and there’s an owner here, the diamond piece is one of the most desirable diamond set watches I’ve ever seen.
One of the most attractive elements of this watch visually is the smoked sapphire crystal, as I’ve said before it thread the needle so well in both making some of the movement visible and at the same time not allowing the movement to distract the eye from the hours and minutes !
The shape of the case has been described by Journe as “a flat turtle-shaped” case. A shape defined by the Vagabondage and a form now seen far more widely in the Elegante (although they are not exactly the same).
We’ve had several threads, one over the weekend also, where the discussion of “what is the signature Journe” (paraphrasing) has come up. Christian did make reference to the Vagabondage series but to be fair it’s not a watch many think of. Perhaps it’s THE un-Journe Journe, no name on the dial, unusual case etc. But the same level of thought and ingenuity is there, just like in any of his creations.
Anyway, enough rambling for now. Would love to hear everyone else’s thoughts on the Vagabondage and where it fits (or sits) within the Journe legacy.
