Through the mainplate, really ?

Well, I have no doubts that both balance wheels are synched. I've seen it, and I am totally OK with that conclusion. But "How ?" still bothers me

I don't believe this can happen through the mainplate. The energy would have to follow quite a path to make it through. A chain of components in which some are not linked all the time such as the swiss lever that only has brief encounters with both balance wheels through the ellipse and the escapement wheel through the pallets. Would it go through the balance wheel's pivots through the shock absorbers then ? Well principle for shock absorbing is energy absorbing...

Shall we admit that the mainplate is involved, then why the adjustment to tune up the distance between both balance wheels ? Would that tuning be so crucial if energy would simply go through another path ?
I've been attending to some lecture where Journe stated again that resonance was travelling through the watch parts. I've been asking him if he had testes other materials but he simply replied "no". Then some other watchmaker asked about something I didn't remember but when FPJ replied, he mentioned a watchmaker who tested the resonance in a vacuumed chamber. The watchmaker concluded that under these circumstances, the synch was lost. Journe said that he didn't have such an apparatus to test his watch. Knowing how frequent and cheap are these machines we bette conclude that either he's not interested into studying this area or he knows quite well what could happen there.

Could the coupling of both resonators be related to some other phenomenon than resonance ? Could the air be part of it. Could there be some aerodynamics effects taking place right in-between the balance wheels, coupling them ? That would make more sense to me.

For resonance, at least the way a scientist would understand it, considering the amount of energy in a watch at the escapement level, coupling the resonators through a shortest path makes more sense. Then I'd go with Armin Strom or Halter on these scientific approaches with coupling taking place at the hair spring level. I could add Haldiman but I am not familiar enough with their implementation. Armin Strom, some may argue that the coupling itself is made with a third resonator, but I'll pass on this area. At least from what I kno and what I've seen on both Strom and Halter the resonance happens within few seconds and remains active for the whole power reserve. On the other hand Journe claims he improved his resonance but still cannot guarantee the synchronisation over 20 hours if I remember correctly.

So coupling to resonators is a great achievement no matter how. Benefits are known and agreed, I'd be more discussing the terminology and identifying the real connection.
