F.P. Journe

The Elegante ...

... is a very smart move into a deeper market for F.P.Journe. The watch has so many Journe cues - case, crown, fonts, hands, screwed dial - that you know exactly what you are looking at. [In fact many companies would love to have such strong design elements through their watch range.] And the interesting complications and finish of the quartz movement lift it above the usual. It will be interesting to see what the production numbers of the Elegante will be. Patek Philippe produce more than 10,000 quartz watches per year, approximately 25% of their total production. I doubt Journe will push it that high, but I don't feel it detracts from the mechanical watches. And quartz hasn't seemed to harm Patek's reputation.

I am going to wait to handle the new CS before I give my full opinion. In pictures the dial seems to lack contrast. And I prefer the RG version because of the extra richness over the WG/Pt combination. But as we have seen over the years with the Tourbillon Souveraine, Resonance and chronograph, Journe is not afraid to update older models, even when they are most successful.

Thanks for the pictures and commentary, FX. Always much appreciated.

Regards,

Andrew
