Moving up to FPJ

Apr 16, 2019,20:54 PM

My first post here so thanks for having me. I’d much appreciate some opinions on the watches I’m considering to enter the realm of FPJ with.

I’m not in a position to buy brand new (as much as I’d like to be) so I have to look to the secondary market. There are 2 quite different models I have shortlisted. One is the current Chronometre Souverain in platinum with Havana Dial and the other is an older Octa Divine platinum 38mm with two tone grey and white dial.

Having tried both on I find the 38mm Octa seems to have much better proportions on my wrist, but it is watch only (no box or papers) but comes with the dealers warranty which would include a factory service (dealer is an FPJ AD in the US - you know who!!). The CS is a full set with original warranty still remaining. The price for each is more or less exactly the same.

Apart from the obvious difference in aesthetics which is the better buy? Does the lack of box/papers actually matter if I don’t plan to flip at anytime?

My personal preference would be the Chronometre Souverain. I like the CS in large part because it is a manual winding watch. Not that FPJ's autos are any lesser, but winding the Sourverain is more fun. I love and enjoy winding my watches daily. As for box...

Thanks for that

I’m already swaying heavily towards the Havana. I agree it’s the better choice in the longer term too.

Warm welcom 🤗

Two beautiful FPJs but maybe you already told us your preference , like you said the Octa is a great looking one but the CS with a havana dail is such a gorgeous looking watch .that dail 👌🏻😘. maybe some would say that B&P isnt importent but imo it is . It...

I realise this is far to vague a question!

I think it unreasonable to ask such a vague question like this so I’m not expecting a flurry of replies.

it is a great pleasure to hear about people getting interested in the wonderful world of FPJ. I think it is always most important to find the watch that suits you the best and sing to you the loudest, first and foremost. The Octa Divine is a super nice wa...

Based on your comments I suppose you’ve tried on the CS 40mm? It also exists in 38mm which would be my preference also, much nicer ratios. If both would be 38mm I would go for the CS, just based on personal preference. Good hunting, Dirk

Just my two cents

Very often, we buy watches honestly believing that we won't sell them and that they will be keepers for the next decades. But after some time, you can fall madly in love with another model and have not other choice to fund your next acquisition than selli...

Thanks for all the replies - I know where I’m going now!

Funnily enough the CS I tried on initially was a white dial RG model, and it’s appearance was noticeably larger than the Octa 38 on my wrist. But today I’ve actually had the opportunity to try on the proper CS Havana and all my fears about the size melted...

That’s perfect

Like me, you have a wide wrist and I’m thinking 40 mm will look better on you. In pictures I prefer 38 mm because of the narrow bezel but whenever I try it on MY wrist, 40 mm is just more harmonious.

welcome on board !

i personally would go for CS Havana dial. just make sure to get in contact with FPJ directly & register the watch in your name - it is quite easy & also relevant for used purchases. above step will make sure you don't get in to trouble for future services...

The Havana looks great on your wrist and is an amazing watch. I wear mine more frequently than I initially thought I would. Good luck and enjoy

Thanks

Luckily I’m just a jeans and T shirt guy at work which means the CS is going to get more than it’s share of wear. I’m actually consolidating from a larger, predominantly Rolex, collection to get to this. I’m hoping to get down to just 3 or maybe 4 watches...

Welcome to the world of FPJ.

I would recommend trying out a tan strap and see how you like it compared to the one it’s on in your pic.

Firstly, welcome to the forum and second welcome to the madness of FPJ!

It looks like you’ve made the decision so congrats on that. As I said above the CS, at 40mm, looks perfectly fine on your wrist. I’m a big fan of 38mm as it just suits my wrist better and so I would have suggested you just waiting it out to see if you cou...
