I put the Dato movement in my top 5! Agree the Dato is hard to beat for all the reasons you mention. One plus for FPJ is that the Octa's are so damn comfortable to wear. The Dato can be heavy at times.
...I'm sorry, but that blank eye staring at you from the face of the Dato on any date up to the 10th just ruins the whole thing for me. At least Journe had the good sense to put a '0' in there to maintain the balance
at aesthetics I would go for the Journe as I don't like the platinum Dato with black dial (RG model is a whole different story) but movement wise the Dato is hard to beat.
