...another reason
A little off the topic. Just like to add another reason of why I find Dato and Resonance make a perfect duo, perhaps, is they both have the most beautiful movement views, not just among Lange and Journe watches IMHO, but across all watches that I have seen.
Now the perfect matching Resonance for the classic black dial Dato, I think, should be the BMOP in RG for its pure blackness. How nice Brad has both!

The Dato is really hard to beat, IMO.
Just a killer Chrono, even if this Journe is not bad at all, it just can't beat the powerful Beauty of a Dato...IMO. Not only esthetics, but also Finish: The Lange is a Reference, the FPJ is, once again, not bad, but can't be compared, in terms of finish ...
Comparisons
I put the Dato movement in my top 5! Agree the Dato is hard to beat for all the reasons you mention. One plus for FPJ is that the Octa's are so damn comfortable to wear. The Dato can be heavy at times.

So much smaller looking then the FPJ What size is the Dato? I presume that the FPJ is 40mm

...I'm sorry, but that blank eye staring at you from the face of the Dato on any date up to the 10th just ruins the whole thing for me. At least Journe had the good sense to put a '0' in there to maintain the balance
The Octa chrono is in my opinion one of the nicest out there, if only looking
at aesthetics I would go for the Journe as I don't like the platinum Dato with black dial (RG model is a whole different story) but movement wise the Dato is hard to beat.
