As I understand it, once you are on the approved owner list you are allocated 1 piece a year.

 

Since they only produce around 1,000 each year I guess this means that if you’re not already “in the system” you’re reliant upon the number of existing approved owners in the aggregate and wanting pieces in the ensuing calendar year being below the magic 1,000 number so leaving pieces available for new entrants. This is why they can’t be precise on timing. If you purchase pre-owned this enhances your making it on the boutique list as they see you as a true devotee of the brand - not a flipper. They then record you in their system as the owner of the aggregate number pieces in your collection, regardless of whether they came new from them or the pre-owned market.
Sorry to be so long in explanation - but this was as explained to me earlier this week.
