Urushi stays put - 2 years down the line
Hi All
I know other Purists are sticking to a watch for as long as they can - those that remain are now over two months with the same watch. I guess they'll soon start to feel like I do. I've been wearing my Urushi Seiko every day since it arrived two years ago. I'm now at the start of the third year! I will admit that its been stuck to my right wrist constantly over that time - which has meant my left wrist has been free for other stuff.
If I hadn't been in the habit of wearing two watches would it have lasted so long - who knows. The good thing is, that it still is and I'm still not sure that I need or want to change it. It is now a habit to strap the Urushi on every morning. I then put my alternative choice on or change my mind and put that on my left wrist.
So what can I say about not changing a watch for that long and also what can I say about the Urushi.
Well - after a while its habit forming and you don't even think about what watch to put on - the downside is that there are a number of watches that haven't had as much wrist time as they might. I've also got used to its heft, so when its not on my wrist I probably notice it more than when it isn't. Its also now got the battle scars of daily use to show & they add to its character and value to me - they've been hard earnt.
As for the watch itself - I've looked back at what I said originally and also what I said after a year, some things don't change. It still has a certain heft to it - though I'm getting used to it, its not a small watch by my or indeed any standards as its quite thick too. It still runs slow - but is consistently so, and I've had no urge to get it adjusted. The strap will need changing - but its survived better than I thought it would. The deployant works well for me - it can be a bit intrusive on occasion, but for the most part its fine. I'm sure there are better deploy ants out there but considering price its more than acceptable - this isn't meant to be damning with faint praise either. I've tried some other watches with deploy ants which I just couldn't get my head around - the Seiko's is nice and simple - just what this owner needs!
The dial is still its standout feature and still looks wonderful, I still catch myself looking at it on occasion - just to look at the dial and not to check the dial. There's a real depth and quality to it & I think as I've said before this watch is mainly about the dial - but it is rather wonderful.
So some shots on its travels over last couple of years

Commuting

I still think this is my best shot of the dial - even after two years. Must try harder.

Going to work with a friend

As part of a stack.
Another commuting shot
The final thing I'd say - it was probably the quickest decision on choosing a watch, but also one of my better ones.
Cheers
