Jaeger-LeCoultre

Today's Geneva auction...

An auction was held in Geneva today with 27 lots to be sold.

The results are sometime encouraging, sometime deceiving.

The small deception is the Duometre à Chronographe in Yellow Gold.

Prudently estimated 20 000 to 30 000 CHF, it only made 20 625 CHF, which doesn't reflect the true value of this awesome watch.

The good thing is that someone made an excellent deal on this piece.

Another great deal is the Reverso Septantième in platinum, which went for 25 000 CHF only, but the box was not the corrrect one...

A slight exception, the Amvox II DBS, which went a bit above the estimation ( 8 125 CHF ) :

The Master Perpetual Calendar, with its black dial, did better, and went above the estimation, at 7500 CHF, which is still a bargain, for such a fine perpetual calendar:

This very nice laquered Atmos did twice the estimations ( 13 750 CHF ) :

Another interesting Atmos, made for the 150th Anniversary of the Manufacture sold for 8125 CHF ( Hifgher estimation: 7500 CHF ).

As well as a very nice complicated Pocket Watch signed Lecoultre ( Quarter Minute Repeater and Perpetual Calendar, 56 mm big ), which went 3 times above the estimation ( 15 000 CHF ) :

The Polaris II, red dial, went for twice the estimation, at 5750 CHF! Sadly I lost the bid, but one of us won, which is some excellent news.

This Reverso Chocolate sold well, too, for 11 250 CHF.

The future classics, not limited in edition, are well appreciated. 2 examples, here:

The Master Géographique, 1st Generation, from 1993, went a bit above the estimation ( 9375 CHF ) :

Same for the Reverso Art Deco in rose gold, with an honorable 11875 CHF:

Some lessons? Difficult to get some conclusions from one auction, but it seems that:

1/ The Vintage clocks or wristwatches are more and more appreciated, depending on the condition and the interest, and this has been demonstrated by several auctions, not only this one.

2/ The " Limited Edition " is not a worthy concept ( Duometre and Septantième ) even if, in these 2 cases, they should get more interest than on this auction.

3/ The Future Classics, which are not limited, are pretty well considered...

Food for thought, for the Manufacture...

3/ Next auction to have an eye on, Paris, on the 29th of November... But we'll come back to this one, as the true stars of the Vintage JLC will bill there, even if there is a lot to say...

Best,

Nicolas.
