thanks for your responses below to my query.  I went to the web, and found that the most prevalent watches for sale by the grey dealers currently are the models of SS 5712 and 5980.  It's too bad that these prices are all high (ie more than MSRP).  However, they are available.  I'm just surprised.... are there that many "AD customers" out there who only want a fast profit via flipping, instead of keeping the watches for their collection to enjoy?  The laws of supply of demand... If the supply goes up, the price goes ____.  Maybe there are many watches being released prior to Xmas for the AD.   Or.. it just happened that the latest batch sold all went to flippers instead of keepers.  Just an observation with my web surfing lately.

just a nickname for those professional / semi-professional watch flippers. They have no interest in the watch. They buy the watch from AD just for immediate profit by flipping it. They will not keep the watch as it is risky (no matter how hot the watch is...

My local AD, who is one of the largest Patek resellers in the midwest cannot even get one of these mentioned pieces. I have tried to order a 5004 from them and the best they can tell me is that Patek has it on order - it may take 1-5 years for production....

What our real collector can do is: not buy hot items from grey dealers... Just my 2 cents
