Girard-Perregaux, Traveller WW TC Pink Gold – a second look

Friends,

Nicolas has already posted a review on this watch. The Traveller WW TC Pink Gold Reference: 49700-52.

We have discussed a lot about the new case. Pros and cons.

Personally I prefer not to have the extra crown at nine, but in the same time my personal taste is more towards the old case size, 41 mm than the new 44 mm case.

Both watches sits great on the wrist, actually the feel is very much the same despite the 3 extra mm on the new case. GP pulls this off in a great way by curving the lugs downwards on the new case, so that they “hugs” the wrist more and the watch wears smaller than it really is.

For me the new dial is more masculine than the old one and I love the Latitude/Longitude pattern on the dial, perfect for a Worldtimer!

The pattern gives the dial a greater depth.

Also the hands are more masculine on the new Traveller. The more feminine curves are replaced by stronger sword like hands. This makes the luminous parts of the hands a bit smaller and harder to see, a minus in my opinion.

On the other hand (pun intended) the old hands shape would not go well with the Latitude/Longitude pattern…

Old case:

Functions, I am not a big fan of chronographs – this is a known fact. Yes, I have started to warm up more and even have some in my watch box…

Here I must say that I prefer the chronograph over the power reserve. Why you might ask…

Two reasons: first, the power reserve on the old dial feels a bit off balanced and too big almost touching the 5 o’clock index.

Second reason is that the size of the new Traveller WW tc needs the extra elements!

The three sub-dials instead of two balances the dial beautifully. The case also needs the extra elements. The arc between the crown and the lug tip doesn’t feel that bent with the chronograph pusher there and “hides” the crown guard and makes it a natural part of the case.

I think Girard-Perregaux really succeeded in making a new great iteration of the Traveller! More masculine and the case are like a links between the basic 1966 and the high end Tourbillon watches in their collection.

What I feel GP lost is the feminine touch which made it possible for them to use the same case for both the male and female versions
of the Traveller.

The ladies Traveller is really beautiful watch and I do hope that the Manufacture will add a new ladies version to their current
collection.

As of now there are no sports or larger ladies watch in the collection. The Cat’s Eye, Ladies 1966 and the Ladies Vintage 1945 are all on the smaller side and very delicate…

On the new Traveller, even the buckle is more masculine…

Anyway, this second look made me “discover” the Traveller WW tc in a new light and I do like what I see!

smile

And you? What do you prefer…?
