Jaeger-LeCoultre

From Russia with Love

A few weeks ago, I saw a cool strap on Pinterest and it eventually lead me to Etsy and I discovered that there are quite a lot of leather strap makers/artisans hailing from let's say far Eastern Europe.  Well, I thought I would get a new shoes for fun so I put in an order and 2 weeks later I got this package below from the postman.  I was going to rotate the new shoes between my Duometre and my Gallet; unfortunately I had to return the Gallet, so there is only the Duometre left that fits correctly.

The new strap is a deep purple fish skin with red stitching.  It was about $30 so I'm happy with the result.  The leather maker was very prompt & clear in emailing with me and I got exactly what we agreed on.

Another view of the fish scales vs. my current sharkskin strap on the Duometre.  There's a slight "new car" odor, presumably the color dye or side paint process.  The keep is a bit too wide for my tastes but not a big deal.

Well, to my dismay, I discovered that I overlooked one minor detail.  The lugs of the Duometre are short and curve downwards so there is not much space between the watch case and the lug holes.  The new strap that I ordered is fairly thick at the end bend, probably about 0.25mm too thick.  It's really my fault.  The leather maker had recommended that the strap be 2.5-2.7mm but I asked for it to be 3.0-3.5mm.  It would have fit the Gallet much better.

So being pig-headed, I tried to force the new shoes onto the Duometre and I really did a number on the top lugs.  (I put on painter's tape to protect the lugs but still a few scratches got created).  I admitted defeat & saved the bottom lugs from scratches and the new straps are going into the drawer for "future" use.  Starting to have too many new straps that are not being used.  Who's got a bunch of them?  Should I buy a new watch with 20mm lugs just to use these straps...crazy, no?
