Another Seiko Discus Sequel : Straps Change
Firstly, congratulate to all friends who have bought the Seiko Discus and I hope all of you are enjoying this cool piece.
Yesterday, went to meet a good friend of mine to greet him a Great Lunar New Year before everyone goes for the long break. At the same time to see what stock of straps he has....preferably those sporty with red stiching. Oh! No stock...only set available is a perforated matt black set.
He gave the set to me for the Discus! Thanks Shawn
.
This morning, after a cup of coffee, I decided to change a new straps for my Black Discus.
The original Seiko straps are pretty unique... it has a curved plastic shaped-end to match the caseband of the Discus.
Later will show some pictures that depict detailed work was done even for the strap.
So, if anyone who has changed their straps, please post some pictures for us here at the PuristSPro.
I will start the ball-rolling......................
The disassembled pieces...the straps, pins and the 'burger' (case).
The double-step plastic stiffener was embedded into the straps. See how the leather was neatly folded over the stiffener....making the plastic stiffener invisible and seamless with the case! A few views of the stiffener end of the original Discus straps.....
Perhaps this could be the Part Number for re-ordering.
Now that the straps were removed, let see if the areas around the lugs areas were decent.... as this hidden areas, some may take short-cut ...
Nicely polished too....
The lugs were fully coated too ...
Take a careful look at this picture....did you notice a small gap/relief between the lugs and the bezel? It is not visible when you put the watch on.Good design and tolerance.
A bare body
Does it look like a burger now?
Another angle showing the curvature on the stiffeners.
A top view...
A closer side view...observe how the leather material "encapsulate" the plastic stiffener, making it inconspicuous.
See the steps on the stiffener. The lower step is as a guide to contact the case. The above step then just met the circumference of the caseband, giving an illusion the strap was flowing out from the case.
Now for the straps change!
A stealthy, conservative, matt, perforated sporty set..... could be even more engaging and fun if it has red stiching!
A few wrist-shots with the new perforated straps
The new straps are comfortable and shorter ...so the end does not hook my pants pocket
No visible gaps between the straps and the body ( though I initially suspected it would).
Referring to the last picture (with
the original straps), the new straps will leave a space, exposing the
the joint-line between the bezel and the caseband.
Last picture a simulated piece with the carbon fibers straps.

Please show us your unique FUN piece with new straps soon! Thanks!
