A nice way to start off 2012!
No, I didn't buy another watch.....but rather saw this beauty on another wrist and got permission for a quick photo session. The Historiques Chronograph is one of the nicest chronographs that Vacheron Constantin has ever made. It is based on the vintage reference 4178, and distinguished by the tear drop lugs.
The movement is the VC caliber 1141, based on a manual winding Lemania ebauche.
The Historiques Chronograph was offered in five different variations. This particular watch has a platinum case with a silver dial. Also in platinum is a salmon colored dial, and a limited edition (25 watches) black dial. In yellow gold it came either with a silver or a black dial. Collect them all if you can!
I have become so accustomed to seeing the Malte Chronograph and Patrimony Traditionnelle Chronograph over the past six years, which also use this movement and both of which have 42 mm cases, that the 37 mm case of the Historiques Chronograph seems shockingly small by comparison. I wish I had those other watches on hand for a side by side photo. Some lucky collector out there must have all three. Please share a photo if it's you!
