40th Anniversary….
yes we have speculated in prior threads around what PP will bring for us on its 40th anniversary of the Nautilus line. But as we approach the release date i thought it would be fun and interesting to gather some thoughts and guesses once more for what we look forward to seeing. Here is my little speculative blurb:
1) perpetual calendar Nautilus. Quite simple I would guess to implement, 240 base caliber essentially put the 3940/5140 in a Nautilus case and there we have it. Offerings in stainless with Nautilus blue dial. Hope case will be similar to the 5712. Now Royal Oak and Overseas already been released by peers with perpetual calendars so would only make sense to bring it here as well. Would not expect anything crazy in terms of colors, stainless on bracelet and rose gold and white gold on strap as has been customary. Now a rose and white gold on bracelet would be interesting.
2) chronograph Nautilus. We can probably agree the 5980 has become somewhat of an icon along with the 3700/5711/5712. Most likely the last iteration of the 5980 will leave the production lineup and we will be left with the 5990. If I had to guess the 5990 will be discontinued at some point soon and a pure chronograph successor to the 5980 will be unveiled. Perhaps case design and pushers will be redesigned, or perhaps dial layout? No idea, but we need to have a chronograph in the lineup for a sports collection. Ideally in titanium if I could decide, but that is probably a very optimistic thought!
3) a tribute to the original 3700. In other words what AP did with the release of the 15202. If we draw parallels and call the 3700 the 5402 and the 5711 the 15300. Then the 15202 needs an equal. Slightly finer 5711 without a seconds hand. Perhaps as a limited anniversary model release in stainless and yellow gold on bracelet. Like the 3700. Or can we expect a platinum limited release here?
4) in the spirit of their latest release I would expect some various iterations of existing models as well. I could see a 5726R on strap as the 5980R bids farewell.
5) crazy idea but one interesting idea would be a limited release of a split second chronograph Nautilus in steel or platinum. That would be quite extraordinary.
6) For ladies I am not sufficiently well versed in what the offerings are and has been. But looking at the current collection it does seem like many versions are covered. Could we perhaps see a ladies annual calendar?
Some ideas for your perusal as we await the official release. What is your take? Should we expect to be blown away or merely mildly amused? So far the Nautilus collection has not disappointed and they have put the bar high. But what else should we expect from Patek? I certainly expect to be blown away and hope I will not be disappointed!
