3940P case back question
Hi all -- I'm still climbing up that steep learning curve for this reference, so please indulge another question. It appears that most 3940s have solid case backs. Did Patek even make platinum exhibition case backs for the 3940? It would be a shame not to see -- and photograph, over and over -- that fabled movement. So I'm wondering how hard it would be to source an exhibition case back. Thanks!

Nope
To my knowledge the platinum 3940 was only ever produced with a solid case back. I suppose it’s always possible that one could have been made by special order, but I’ve never seen one.
Most gold 3940 came with a sapphire case back
and a solid gold case back too but the earlier ones came only with a solid case back. Not sure about the platinum though.
