We often hear about the word " Jubilé ".
When a professional soccer player retires, we attend his Jubilé match.
When you are working for many years in the same company, we celebrate your Jubilé.
We often read " Jubilé " tour for a rockband.
Some brands celebrate their Jubilé.
So, I searched into the dictionnary, to check the true definition of the word Jubilé, and I fell on this:
1/ In the Bible, this is a priviledged year, which comes every 50 years.
2/ In the Catholic Religion, this is a holy year, which comes every 25 years.
3/ Important wedding anniversary.
4/ 50th year in your job, or in your reign.
As you know, 2013 is an important year for Jaeger-Lecoultre, as the manufacture celebrates the 180th year of its birth.
But, strictly speaking, the 180th birthday cannot be considered as a Jubilé, except if you opt for the 3rd definition, the important aniversary.
Jaeger-Lecoulte celebrated two Jubilé in the last 55 years.
In 1958, with the laucn of three well known watches: The Geophysic, the Memovox World Time Ref 3160, and the Memovox Parking ( Ref 3161 ), without forgetting the Ref 2233, a simple dressy and thin watch, a lady watch, and a few clocks, such as the Ref 69, Ref 70, and even an Atmos.
- The Geophysic:
- The Memovox World Time, as featured in a catalog from 1961:
- The Memovox Parking:
- The 2233:
- The 3 " Jubilé sisters ":
- The Ref 70:
- Without forgetting the 380, a superb double face clock:
This Jubilé was largely covered in the ads, catalogs and brochures, too:
Even the American sister, Lecoultre, celebrated the event on its own way, but this is another topic I will treat later....
2/ The Jubilé 2008, which is a true Jubilé, as it was the 175 birthday of the Manufacture:
Three watches were unveiled, this year. No real novelties, except the MUT 38 mm which came in rose gold with a superb brown dial.
- The MMR Rose Gold 1833:
- The Master Grand Tourbillon Rose Gold 1833:
- The MUT 38 1833:
You certainly notcied the unity of style, which is, in the brown dial and the rose gold case, for these three watches.
A very thin catalog was published, in 2008, to celebrate this special anniversary, but cannot be compared to the 1958 Jubilé coverage, though.
3/ What about the 180th Anniversary?
I will reveal the new Jubilé collection in a few days, now, but yes, we can wonder:
- What will be the unveiled watches for this occasion?
Totally new watches? Adapatations of watches which already exist ( sorry for the redundance )?
Unity of style? Jubilé signature?
- What will be the coverage of the event?
Dedicated brochures or catalogs?
Advertisement campains?
Goodies?
A Real Jubilé time?
Hmmm... So many questions!
Best,
