What happened to Porsche and Chopard at 6 Hours of Nürburgring 2017?

Nürburgring, 16th July 2017.

Just a day before the '6 Hours of Mexico' World Endurance Race on 1st September 2017, let's recap on what happened before the Summer holidays.

The Race

It didn't look good at the start when the No. 7 Toyota Gazoo Racing car out-qualified both Porsches and sandwiching them with the No. 8 Toyota Gazoo car in P-4 on the grid..

Winners of the first two races at Silverstone and Spa, the No.8 Toyota Gazoo Racing drivers (Anthony Davidson, Kazuki Nakajima and Sébastien Buemi), needed a new fuel pump on the first lap, thus putting them out of contention. The pole sitting No.7 Toyota of Kamui Kobayashi, José Maria Lopez and Mike Conway took third place after being overtaken by both Porsches. The Toyota TS050 HYBRID finished just under a lap down on the winning Porsche.

Porsche 1 - 2

The two Porsches were only four or five seconds apart during the entire race with many changes of lead but it was the current World Championship car which won to give both Bernhard and Hartley their 10th WEC wins and Bamber his 3rd.

Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber took their second win of the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship season after a thrilling battle with the sister Porsche 919 Hybrid.

Hartley, Bernhard and Bamber extended their lead in the 2017 championship to 30 points as the European sector of the 2017 WEC comes to an end. André Lotterer, Neel Jani and Nick Tandy made it a Porsche 1-2 at their home event, taking P-2 after leading for large periods of the race; the final pit stop reversed their fate.
