Chopard

They are different animals!

Hi Hal

Please allow me to add some info.  MTF has already given good inputs.

Firstly, both models - the Quattro and the XP (Extra-plate) are from the L.U.C series with the L.U.C calibres.

The Quattro is a breakthrough in the watch industry to be able to achieve 9days(216 hours) of Power-reserve during the year 2000.
It is a breakthorough in the horology world after more than 150 years to achieve such long power reserve.

Chopard L.U.C is the first to innovate the long power reserve with a slim case of 9.10mm by creatively stacking 2 sets of  double barrels together.
It is like a high performance cars with 2 fuels tanks enabling it to cover longer distance.

Besides, the Calibre 1.98 is superbly finished manual winding piece.  It is COSC chronometer certified and earned the Geneva Seal too.
It is the technical marvel you are buying in besides the aesthetic.

A liitle bit more details.  The dial base material is 18K gold, so are the hands, the crown and the buckle!

The piece which MTF showed is classic design.  If you prefer something more contemporary, you could check out the L.U.C Quattro Mark II.

L.U.C Quattro Mark II Ref: 161903-X001 (available in RG, WG & YG (not shown here) . See through case-back.  Diameter is 39.50mm.

For the Extra-Plate (L.U.C XP), this is also another unique piece.
Won 1st place for  the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Geneve 2006 in the Extra Thin Category.

Extremely sleek and the black dial you were referring to, you must see it in steel.  Very captivating!
The blackness of the dial is mesmerising... very difficult to explain in words, you must see it .

I've mentioned it before on this thread with some pics :

The XP calibre is the Automatic  L.U.C 96HM.  The watch depth is 6.80mm thin & the diameter is of  current trend 39.50mm.

Some of  you may compare it to other brands of Extra-Plate.  Many of the top brands are slightly thinner than the L.U.C XP, however they are all manual-winding pieces!

You may be awared that this piece of  dress-watch does not have a second-hand. That's the reason it is not COSC certified.  Nevertheless, it is still very accurate.
It comes with a solid caseback, which you can engrave to commerate your special occasion.

I also attach the pictures of the XP-The Madison Boutique version for your reference (which was covered : chopard.watchprosite.com )

I'm not sure what are your criterias, the prices are quite far apart for these 2 pieces.  The Quattro is more superior, however, if you are just looking for a dress watch, the XPs are killers!  Try it on for all of them before you decide.

As for your last remark, L.U.C pieces are more of the classic design, however, they also listen to the customers and have already some models which are of contemporary design like the Tech series like the Tech Twist , Tech Regulator and Tourbillon Titan SL.

Please keep us inform of your decision and ask us any questions if you still have.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
