The Shikkoku Alpine Eagle
The Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 Shikkoku ref. 298600-3021 is a 100-piece Japan-Only Limited Edition which has never been reviewed on our site.
Released in 2023, it was the first regular Alpine Eagle without a date.
Shikkoku (漆黒) refers to an intense jet-black color, whose impenetrable darkness is associated with the idea of mystery, simplicity, and tranquility inherent in Zen aesthetics.
Shown through a tinted glass caseback is caliber 01.15-C, a no-date version of the ordinary calibre 01.01-C.

In harmony with the black dial, the applied Roman numerals and indices as well as the hands are glossy black and enhanced with Cool Grey Super-LumiNova.
As other Alpine Eagle models, the case measures 41 x 9.7 mm and is made of Lucent Steel A223.

Sometimes when I see a watch or a suitcase that is obviously brand new, without a single scratch, it almost looks "naked/bare" and "just born" for a lack of a better word. ...

A no date version should have been
the main model from the get go. In Alpine Eagle 41mm watches the date is very well integrated with the same color date wheel with the dial but still, that special dial deserved a simple no date version which elevated the watch to another level imho. Thank...

Yes, I agree, but the RO and the Nautilus have/had a date and I think the AE wanted to compete with them
in a lower price range (at least, to begin with). The date doesn't bother me too much on my grey dial variant, but I agree that it would be even better without. Best, Emmanuel

I visited the National Gallery of Art and saw this Rothko painting: It upset me because I can never reclaim the time I spent looking at it. I clearly didn't get it! So I'd like to see this particular AE in person, since I like so much of what Chopard does...
I'm sure the Alpine Eagle makes a different impression! ;-)
