Chopard

These three new variants of the Quattro Spirit 25 , ref. 161977-5009 , have a gold-based dial adorned with straw marquetry and are limited to 8 pieces each. As other variants, they are powered by caliber L.U.C 98.06-L , which has 8 days of power reserve. ...  

The LuC script on the dial gives me a headache though with the shadow.

Their Urushi pieces have the same problem. But apart from that, I find these straw dials very original and good looking.

As only one marquetry artisan, Nathalie, does each dial in a very time consuming way, production is necessarily very limited. Cheers, Emmanuel

My choice would be the black but both are quite stunning. Although it seems L.U. Chopard has gone all in on the printing the logo on the inside of the glass and I really am not liking the ghosting this is causing on the dial. Marc

They do the same 'mistake' on their lovely Urushi models (and I had the opportunity to tell them how I feel about it recently). And I agree with you that the black version looks very attractive! Emmanuel ...  

More and more brands are doing straw marquetry. We will have to wait a couple decades to find out if it passes the test of time!
