José Carreras

In January 1958 , an 11-year-old boy, Josep Carreras (as he is known in his country) first stepped on the stage of the Barcelona Opera House, Liceu and made his debut as a singing child.  In 1970, his debut as a tenor.

At the height of his success in 1986,  José Carreras was diagnosed with acute leukemia and was given a 1 in 10 chance of survival. After a tough battle with the serious illness and eleven months of hospitalization,  his life was saved by a then unusual bone marrow transplant carried out by future Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Donnall Thomas in Seattle.

After discharged from hospital,  he set up the International Leukemia Foundation in Barcelona to fund scientific researches to combat this terrible illness.

Today, the Foundation has three affiliates, in the USA, Germany and Switzerland.  And Chopard, as friend of José  Carreras has been supporting the foundation for many years.

2008, is the year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of José Carreras debut as a opera singer in the Liceu and a philanthropist.

Good deed and meaningful charitable work by Chopard

I always salute this type of continuous charitable effort rather than the "only watch" auction. BTW, nice watch and pen. Does Chopard sell both as a package? Regards Ling

Initiailly I thought as a package too ...

they come in different package. Kong

Interesting color change

I really didn't like the first pic of the watch, the notes looked almost white, but with the different angles it looks much more interesting. are the notes just a different surface (glossy vs matte) or are they colored too? A

The real piece always looks better ...

Apologies, the bounce flash somehow make the notes white. The notes are a layer of matt translucent print. So the angled pictures should be the true representation of the real piece. Kong
