Cartier

I might actually prefer the larger, and this has nothing to do with size.

This 38 looks like it wears extremely large.  And I think that might be great. Part of that may be the visual continuity between the case/bezel and the lugs and crown guard, which are both very prominent.

My issues:

1. No disruption to the aforementioned visual continuity.  However, the 42 seems to have a dark ring or space inside the bezel which creates a border between the face of the watch and the outside regions of the case and the lugs.

2.  The big XII is gone!! I know you like the smaller XII FX, but I think the face needs some weight when competing with the lugs, and the big XII was a great anchor.

3.  The shiny guilloche effect on the 38 is not my cup of tea here.

4.  The date window on the 42,with the 3 dates, is more legible and cooler in an IWC way than the punched out date window on the 38

The good:
1.  The size is awesome, it's great to see another line scaling back a bit
2. I like having numerals in the 4-8 hours instead of the indices on the 42.  Just too much change there on the 42.

When I weigh it all together, I'd choose the 42 over the 38 (assuming of course that the 42 would not be too big).

Thanks for the pics FX!
