I bought it because it is classic and has no unneeded text or a date on the dial. It was a great watch that was unfortunately stolen a while back. Great watch and now some years later I may get another, but perhaps the anniversary model with the black bezel. I bought the 3800 after much research including use of this site (pre-pro). Chose it over the Blancpain Leman Chrono, Speedmaster, and Navitimer. Would make the same choice today. Also back in the day 8ohms wrote some posts stating that as a watch mechanic he liked the movement, etc. and that weighed on my decision.
only drawbacks - standard strap with delpoyant is too narrow at the clasp. makes it seem a bit dainty. Also the watch is top-heavy and so can slide to one side of the wrist. thus I wish it had a wider strap for more stability. Also, the minute counter scale is a bit strange, but that is not a big deal.
I got a lot of compliments when I had it.
The other is more advanced and that is cool, but the original (in the modern era) is pure class. And as they always say - see them both in the metal, try them on, and choose the one that sings to you. You have my opinion, but decide for yourself!
Best, Jeff
