Breguet

Can I be honest? My opinion of the 7057 …

Hello Watchez,

This is a very pertinent question, and I will preface my answer by saying that I have the YG 37mm 7027 Tradition and I think the proportions of that watch are perfect. I realise it suits a smaller wrist better, but I do not love what Breguet have done with the 7057.

My initial reaction was negative in pictures, but I must admit that it is better in the metal (I have tried one in a dealer for a few minutes). I still think, however, that the proportions are off. The ‘dial’ of the 7027 is the same size as the central barrel and therefore nicely balanced. In the 7057 it has been enlarged for the sake of legibility, but it is now disproportionate and partially covers both the central barrel jewel and the intermediate hand setting wheel.

Whether or not you mind the overlapping RdM indicator is personal. I realise Breguet use this to effect on several watches, but personally I don’t like indicators that overlap the dial. The Journe Calendrier is a case in point because, although I love everything else about that watch, I don’t like the date pointer obscuring part of the dial, particularly at the extremes of the month. As the 7057 has a RdM on the back of the watch, I would have been inclined to remove the front indicator completely.

The final point is the sloping inner edges of the case going down to the same Cal. 507DR that is in the 37mm watch. It is not as obvious in the metal, but this just serves to remind me that the watch has been enlarged from what was originally intended.

If I had a larger wrist I would be looking at the GO PanoInverse XL, particularly in steel for the lovely subtle colour contrasts. The case size is 42x11.2mm and may suit you better.

I love the Tradition series, but that is my response to the 7057.

Andrew

Does it get any more perfect than this:

... I don't think so.
