addendum to another strap option for 3880
Feb 23, 2016,07:12 AM
Dear fellow purists,
for the technical interested purists I had to add:
There are further differences, which I had to overcome - spring bar diameter
To be honest, there are actually no spring bars on Marine Chronos - there are little tubes with threads in them and from outside the lugs come small screws, to fix the strap.
The spring bars (Marine series tubes, compared to 3880 spring bars) are different in their respective diameter.
The tubes mounted with Marine series straps are approx.1,75 mm in diameter, where the spring bars for the 3880 strap measure 1,9 mm in diameter.
Thus I had to drill the rubber strap holes for the spring bars to 2 mm, allowing to fit the original 1,9mm spring bars, which came with the 3880 watch.
It was easy done, because the part of the strap, which is positioned between the lugs, is some hard plastic and only mantled with rubber.
The last difference, didn't take any action:
The case of the Marine Chrono is 42 mm in diameter, where the XXII (3880) has a case diameter of 44 mm.
As the rubber strap sits very close to the watch case, there may be the assumption, the different radius - between case and strap - could be visible - no it's not.
The style of Breguet watch cases as "coin edge" in german "Kannelierung" is therefore helpful.
I think if anyone out there, wishes to do this strap change as well, I provided all the necessary information.
