Hi All,
I have been reading your posts with interest, and, as I did promise that I would advise on the end result of my troubled Breguet 5817 Marine ( that issue is resolved ) here is the final chapter.
For those that remember the saga, it came back around Christmas, but I had so little confidence left in the suitability of my "dream watch" for me... and even less confidence in the Breguet service department in Switzerland, that I had already made up my mind to sell it on it's return.
However, I did want to make sure it was working properly before I sold it, and so I wore it during the evenings for several weeks, and it seemed fine.
As such, I sold it, and replaced it with a new Rolex Sub.
My wife and I have had Rolex for over 20 years with no problems at all, and any service has always have been attended to by Rolex in a timely manner and at a reasonable price.
I had bought the Breguet Marine because of the simple and elegant clean look of the 5817.... and the crisp readability of the dial.
However, while it was a disappointment that Breguet did not stack up to my needs, there were some nice moments from all of this.
I did meet a very nice, and true gentleman, who purchased the watch and I think meeting him and enjoying his company and conversation was possibly the highlight of owning the 5817.
Selling the Breguet also gave me the pleasure of replacing it.
This pleasure I got by buying a new Rolex... and that is always a memorable moment. I think everyone who ever bought a Rolex remembers that day clearly.
To my cyber friends who have, and love their Breguets, I sincerely wish your joy continues.
If I can hope for anything good to come from my encounter with Breguet..... then it is my hope that Breguet realize that Service is paramount to long term Sales.
My new Rolex Submariner, although in a different way, offers the benefit of an easy read dial in a Marine ..... and I am delighted with it. I am also impressed at the new easy adjust Clasp... the engineering there is amazing.
It will also serve as a companion for my Daytona. I attach a photo for your enjoyment.
kindest regards,
Jack
