Bathyscaphe ceramic in black

Swapped my steel with grey sunburst dial for the black ceramic case with black sunburst dial, for several reasons.  Thought it may be of interest to fellow members here.  Summarizing in the interest of brevity…

The watch is big.  Although if any genre (perhaps other than pilots’ watches) may be forgiven for this, it’s the divers, and although it’s not as big wearing as the FF, the Bathy is big - not 43mm but more like 44 at 43.6, and while not obnoxiously thick, it’s surely not thin.  For me this has been a little bothersome for years, even with my 7.25” wrist.  To my eye the black ceramic makes this watch appear significantly smaller, even though I know it’s not.

It’s lighter, not by a whole lot but enough to notice.

It’s pretty resistant to scratching.  Although for fellow purists I think it should be noted that it certainly can be scratched - the brushed finish ridges can be nicked.

Overall the ceramic case and tone on tone dial color treatment of this model, especially on the black sailcloth strap take the idea of this watch to an even further extent, in a more modern and technical feeling/looking way, which, to me, is compelling.

If willing to wear it and treat it as a tool watch, it complements other luxury class pieces like the Explorer quite nicely, and flies just under the radar where Rolex and AP can’t anymore.
