Perhaps the painted disk...
...is underneath all the moisture indicators. It would seem to make sense, as you would not want a black background to such an indicator.
And this one has been removed after going pink (I think this would just be a matter of time unless the watch was only ever opened in zero humidity). The indicators would be easy to make, but scary to apply to these vintage dials.
