Not your usual Blancpain…

… namely the L‘Evolution Grande Date 8 Jours. It’s more a concept watch than a timeless classic, with a lot of interesting and well executed details.

The 43.5mm case picks up the typical double ring bezel, but it goes totally new ways when it comes to the removable bold lugs.

The open worked dial plays with the traditional 2100/Leman Roman numerals and movement decorations in form of Geneva stripes and perlage, while the 8 day caliber based on the well known 1315 and equipped with a titanium balance shows a more unique and modern finish:

It’s a controversial design, and it was not exactly a huge success. But it represents a time of innovation and creativity besides the established routes. Maybe it was just ahead of its time?

Hope you enjoyed these impressions. What’s your take on this almost forgotten line by Blancpain?

Cheers
Henrik

Everytime I see or read about a Blancpain I can't help but think...

About what an underappreciated brand it is. And that's such a shame. They really don't get anywhere near the credit they deserve.

Thanks very much for your post.

I haven't seen that one before. It's certainly interesting and I like it, although there are certain aspects which aren't to my taste, like the large roman numerals on a sporty and modern design. Thanks again. Jon

Fantastic...

Was able to try one on in the NYC boutique, an example in platinum, and found it quite amazing.
