I have a Breitling Chronomat with DLC since eight years ....
... and certainly never saved it from the challenges of everyday life. It is one of my favourite vacation watches:

The case shows no visible scratches. However, there are two tiny specks where the coating was perforated by apparently a sharp or pointed edge, and two tiny dings where the coating itself withstood undamaged, but the metal beneath was dented, the result of a (rather massive, I presume) collision with a blunt object.
If you like the blackened case, I would always suggest getting a DLC finish, since it is less brittle than ceramic, with almost the same scratch-resistance.
