 By: amanico : July 8th, 2012-00:18
4 out of 5 of my beloved Vintage Fifty Fathoms on some old french centimes... The Early Fifity Fathoms: An early Rotomatic Incabloc: Pakistani? Here you are. Almost exuberant, compared to its " sisters ": And, to end in beauty, the AM 103: Best, Nicolas...

Very nice Nicolas......

Love the watches very much and what a good idea to put them on these coins, beautiful colour constrat. Now, why is it called Pakistani? and I see 3 out of 4 are milspec were Blancpain big in manufacturing pieces for the military in particular? Kind regard...

My dear Friend of the Kangaroos...

 By: amanico : July 8th, 2012-00:46
It is called Pakistani, because it was used by the Pakistan Army. Here is a picture of the case back, qhowing the Pakistani Logo, the P with an arrow: http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/5320/milspecarrow17.jpg And yes, Blancpain provided watches to severa...

Thank you Nicolas.....

So would you have the same for other armies, I mean you call the Pakistani.....Pakistani, would one been built for say the American army be called the American, or for the English army the English in the collectors jargons?

No, it doesn't work like that.

 By: amanico : July 8th, 2012-01:06
For example, those which were in use in the US army were the Tornek Rayville, the US NAVY, and the Milspec. Fro the German Army, it is called No Rad Bund. For the French Army, it doesn't have a specific name, as you will find early FFs such as the Rotomat...

Merci!

And of course for the German military, there is the ugly sister..

 By: DivingT : July 8th, 2012-03:58
Which generally refer to as the 4 o'clock crown bund, or 3H bund. But it certainly no where as gorgeous as either of these beauties. Great shots Nicolas - what we could call 'the money shot' ;-) Cheers Tony

LOL. Thanks, Tony.

I'm always sucker for good ambiguity :)

Nico, I can;t see the differences

 By: ArthurSG : July 8th, 2012-04:21
between the first milspec and the AM. Pls educate.

Mainly the crown, smaller on the early Milspec, and the dial

 By: amanico : July 8th, 2012-08:48
With centered indexes on the ealry Milspec, while the dial in the AM is exactly the same than in the TR 900. Both have a hacking movement. The case back of the AM is special... Same than the one of a Milpsec, but without serial number, just AM + a number....

What a wonderful background for your wonderful timepieces Nicolas!...

... You surely have "coined" some great shots here!! Un abrazo desde las tierras gauchas!! Abel

what is the story behind the AM, nicolas? can not remember, that.....

 By: watch.out1 : July 8th, 2012-23:11
it was confirmed by BP. i remember when it was sold and the discussion on MWR, but forgot the outcome. any confirmed roots? thank you for your time. kind regards. achim

If only I knew what AM means!!!

 By: amanico : July 8th, 2012-23:19
I didn't post the review on the AM yet, but will do in September. One thing is sure, I tried to find out the signification about AM, I didn't find nothing, and I tried hard. Definitiely not American Military. A... Mystery? :) Best, Nicolas.

my understanding was, that AM is a pakistani shipping company.....

 By: watch.out1 : July 10th, 2012-00:39
would make sense with the mil. connection. and, imram, pls. send me a PM. time to catch up after all these years ! kind regards. achim

AM and the Pakistani Milspecs are two different watches, though...

 By: amanico : July 10th, 2012-01:07
The mystery remains unsolved... Best, Nicolas

in the military watch world not every engraved back indicates.....

 By: watch.out1 : July 10th, 2012-01:42
a military issued watch. AM is no military watch , as far as i know. the issued pakistani case looks like the BUND case , crown at 3. even the german navy had different cases at different times issued. i think, the AM pre-date`s the issued pakistani BP. i...

Interesting elements of discussion...

 By: amanico : July 10th, 2012-01:48
Which makes me say that the AM is different from the Pakistani Milpsec is that on this last one, you have the Pakistani symbol ( P with an arrow above ) engraved on the case back AND on the plate, while on the AM, you don't have these details. On the Bund...

still seems to exist, found this.....

 By: watch.out1 : July 10th, 2012-17:24
http://www.amslpk.com/Company.htm . kind regards. achim

Yes,but I meant did you find anything conclusive about AM Shipping and the FF?

 By: amanico : July 10th, 2012-21:58
I found that, during my last holidays... http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/3761/unboat.jpg Ulysse Nardin told me that there was no relation between them and the boat. :) Best, Nicolas ...

As far as I can find, that company is very young....

 By: DivingT : July 10th, 2012-22:41
- formed 2008......so I'm not sure thats the link. cheers Tony

it was just a lead, i was told many years ago. maybe nicolas can contact them, if there...

That was really something, indeed.

 By: amanico : July 12th, 2012-10:17
Will we see our current watches the same same way in let's say 30 years? Best, my friend. Nicolas

I think I probably will..

 By: hans_jorgen_1968 : July 14th, 2012-00:14
.. Though having a twist to it However, the younger generations, our kids might have a completely different view to this. I can just see my girlfriend. Much younger than me :-), just 30. I gave her a vintage Rolex but she prefers a Fossil or just watching...

good to see you back, paul ! send me an email, pls.
