This or that: Lambo or Lamb Shank?
Oct 09, 2017,07:20 AM
This weekend my wife and I watched a Netflix series called Paul Hollywood's Continental Tour. Paul is a baker and known for the Great British Bake-Off series, but is also a keen amateur racer. In this 3-segment show he visits Italy, Germany and France, spending 6 days in each country. He travels in an assortment of vehicles (see below) and usually with a local guide and/or a British comedian who lives in and loves Italy, Germany or France.
Paul learns how to drive a Lamborghini in Italy
He gets a M-B Grosser 600 in Germany before swapping it for a VW bus and going to a nudist colony (reminiscent of Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther movie)
There was an amusing riff in Berlin about the pedestrian signs in the East and West - East looking like a "fat Russian spy" and West looking like "a thin tall Danish spy"
And finally he drives a Citroen DS and 2CV in France, where they pose the question: Would a Frenchman rather have a Ferrari or a case a week of First Cru wines -- the wines won. No answer to the other question they asked, Would a Frenchman rather have a Lambo or a Lamb Bone (Leg of Lamb)?
We found the shows very entertaining - and having spent months ourselves in the past 30 years in each country driving around, it was still very educational in the discussions of how vehicles reflect the culture of the country where they are designed and produced.
Check it out if you can.
