My wife has had 3 full size Rovers that had approached 100k miles each.
All three had no issues, so speaking from experience I have had no problems (they were all well maintained). Knock on wood. Also if I wanted constant dependability/reliability I would just buy a Corolla. All luxury items come at an increase cost. One just has to decide if they are willing to pay for the cost. I did add warranty at the purchase to bring it up to 75K miles so I'm not worried about driving the piss out of it. Land Rover has improved immensely being under Tata motors vs Ford.

It feels like a big heavy box with a growly engine. Which has it's unique appeal.
If I was going to buy the Defender it was only going to be the V8 and specifically either the Bond version or Carpathian. So I was patient and that patience paid off.
