Geneva 2016: The Maserati of SUVs Is Here

 By: ZoneTecnico : March 23rd, 2016-08:38
Will The Levante Wow The Crowd? Maserati has jumped on the bandwagon and unveiled its first ever SUV. The marque, together with the likes of Bentley and Jaguar, aims to tap into the expanding luxury SUV segment. The Levante is dubbed to be the most import...

I'm very much looking forward to seeing this new Maserati Levante SUV in the flesh!

I think the Levante is going to sell very well IMO! - AT

It has a fighting chance

Hi Anthony, I'm actually working at the Maserati dealership in Singapore and even I can't wait to get my hands on it. I really hope Maserati can pull this one off. Regards, Enzo

Seems like a compact SUV with the lower roofline...

Have to get a feel when it arrives at the showrooms....I like my Cayenne proportions, and may be thinking to go bigger into the Range Rover. This is an interesting player. Rgds Raymond

Actually it is bigger than the Cayenne

 By: ZoneTecnico : March 23rd, 2016-18:11
Hi Raymond, I have seen the numbers and the Levante is actually longer (in height and wheelbase), wider and slightly shorter as compared to the Cayenne. I would say go for the Range Rover if you can but the Levante or the Cayenne even are not quite in the...

On the roads of a big city, SUV is not needed.

 By: dr.kol : March 23rd, 2016-10:40
In our case we have a holiday home in Lapland and the roads can be covered by snow and ice. A four wheel driving car with good clearing is needed. When there's no snow in Lapland, we go to our farm in Estonian island. Sometimes after rain the roads are mu...

Responding to market

 By: ZoneTecnico : March 23rd, 2016-18:18
Hi Kari, Like what I told Nico, I guess it is just how the market is reacting to products like these now. And it seems to be very hot. Hence, more players are getting into it for a cut. Plus, SUVs these days handle just as well, if not better in some case...

I had four BMW X5 SUVs

and now I have driven some 70k km with Porsche Cayanne. I must say that the current SUV are having wonderful driving characteristics. The are far away from the first tractors that were called SUV. Best, Kari

Even on the roads of a city a suv can be a nice car to drive

(Never in a lifetime thought I would ever say that.....I must be getting old....). Got my wife a Touareg last year. My wife called it "the van" the first weeks. Think she still does btw... I thought I would never really like driving it because it is the o...

I have been driving with my Cayanne

 By: dr.kol : March 24th, 2016-11:53
in really muddy fields and in deep snow. The characteristics are fantastic because I can lift the car up. But it's also great in autobahn @ 200 km/h. And great in everyday driving. Plus having a lot space for both passengers and shopping. Can't say that m...

The Touareg & Cayanne have been developed simultaneously

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : March 24th, 2016-13:29
The Touareq (also) has air suspension which can lift the car. What it lacks though (at least the Touareg) is a low and high gearing. In all fairness with the right tires I would have probably made it. And even the farmers tractor couldn\'t get the car out...

True. But I leave the real mud jobs for the farmers.

I simply appreciate the fact that I can occasionally go to a bit more challenging places. Finally, the space and safety a SUV should never be underestimated. To be able to see over most of the traffic also adds safety. Best, Kari

I agree

Wonderful daily and travel cars (hate myself saying it; but it\'s true).

It is just a trend

Hi Nico, I guess it is just how the market is reacting to products like these now. And it seems to be very hot. Hence, more players are getting into it for a cut Regards, Z-one

It looks to me like their designers spent too much time at Masda. The lines are more or less identical with one of the Masdas except for the scawl in the front. IMHO their worst attempt at a new model, unfortunate as they do have some very good looking ca...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

 By: ZoneTecnico : March 23rd, 2016-19:05
Hi Don, Well design is a subjective thing. To me, compared to the other SUVs available, the Levante is pretty good looking. And the SUV market is very hot now. Hence, more manufacturers are getting into the action. Regards, Z-one

For me, this will be a hard sell over the Cayenne.

 By: descartes1 : March 23rd, 2016-14:54
Porsche has more experience making SUV\'s, the Mas will probably cost more and I prefer the styling of the Cayenne. Also, it\'s hard to imagine that the Mas with outperform the Cayenne. For what it\'s worth, I think the Cayenne S and Turbo are incredible ...

Thanks, Descartes. [nt]

Same segment as the Cayenne

 By: ZoneTecnico : March 23rd, 2016-19:44
Hi Nico. Actually, the Levante is in teh same segment as the Cayenne. Maserati is targetting the Cayenne. It is longer (in length and wheelbase), wider and slightly shorter than the Cayenne. And prices will be pretty similar Regards, Z-one

Being the new kid on the block is not easy

 By: ZoneTecnico : March 23rd, 2016-19:38
Hi descartes1, I get what you are trying to say but it is not easy. Price wise, the Levante will be priced competitively to the Cayenne. In terms of performance, we will have to wait and see. Anyway, in terms of size, the Levante is slightly bigger than t...

Hah! It seems not so long ago we said this in reverse when comparing the, then brand new, Cayenne to stuff like Baby Range Rovers (e.g. "Sport").
