Hi Andrew,
i have seen this PGO with the Peugeot engine on our street on several occasions ... and how hard i try to like it ... :-( ... it simply doesn't work for me ... it's actually dead-ugly ... especially when you compare it to the original ....
However, in the 70ies there was a Belgian company named 'APAL' who made very nice replica-kits of the Speedster to mount on a Beetle-chassis. I had a friend who once owned one and they used to be pretty common over here in the eighties ... and not only very beautiful but they also felt like the original thanks to the aircooled boxer-engine ... i have seen these cars with horsepower varying from the standard 40 hp to over 200 hp ...

Apal also used to make buggy's on the Beetle-chassis .. i remember having a lot of fun in this particular one ... it was pretty slow due to the standard Beetle engine, didn't really handle well, brakes were poor but oh so fun to drive if not too cold

What do we think of these products? Do we lump them into the same category of watches as homage? There is nothing on this PGO Speedster II that says Porsche 356 Speedster, but there is no mistaking the origin of the design; or is that inspiration for ...
an ugly homage...
should you look for an homage see beck (for 550) or intermecanica. or buy an original one you will be surprized by its "modernity"

...................it's a nice idea. A friend of mine bought a Speedster replica for about 30k €, and it was a VERY nice looking car, and technically better than the original. The one in your pictures looks really ugly, to me. Vte :)

Sorry. In my mind, it should be real or if not, use the same components or configuration. No Corvette-chassis Daytona Spyder (Don Johnson) or MG TD with VW engine in the rear, or Ferrari-on-a-Fiero. (Not my car or photos) ...
