While my wife entered into the world of vintage AP before me with her 33mm RO QP, I'm happy to jump in with this superlative timepiece which was introduced around the same time as many of the best offshores in AP's history. I guess at that time I was so deep into Offshore-land that I didn't appreciate the excellence that was launched with the Jules Audemars collection.

As shared before - the JA series may have been released too early in its time - but if it was released today I think it would get a decent audience, vis-a-vis all of the recent independent / high finishing / high mechanism demand we see out there with FPJ, RR, and many others. Maybe Ilaria and the team will be considering this in the not so distant future?

In the meantime, I'm really enjoying this piece especially in relation to my collection. I think I had an expectation that CODE would somehow force fit into this category (and pull me away from independents) but now after wearing this for the last week I definitely see this traditional haute horologerie has a real unique spot in my collection, and I will likely be pursuing more in the future. And perhaps rethinking how I collect more modern pieces...

the time part can also be classed as a regulator as the hours minutes and seconds are on separate subdials

AP has the richest history when it comes to minute repeaters. Still, one of the few brands that has made carillons (more than two gong watches) in the past 25 years.

A Minute Repeater by virtue should avoid luminous markers!

Since the original concept of minute repeaters was for night policemen to be able to tell time late at night when there was no moon (village clock doesn't ring its bells at night, so villagers can sleep, and not every village had gas lamps yet) - and for ...

Agree a lot - I think the front reminds me a little when you enter La Sagrada Família - organically angled pillars with equivalent fine beveling and finishing as in the back. Blued hands, and that font!!! Peter

In my process I was keen to get something with more modern with more reliable mechanics whilst identifying something that was aesthetically pleasing to the eye and ear. I've heard service for these pieces are very high and take a long time, so I was keen ...

Is hidden in this small button next to the winder. I had originally assumed it was to advance the jump hour, but it actually is to advance the Minute Repeater by one hour - which allows you to run a second time! So a bit of a harmonic GMT function - and y...

Peter, I could not be happier to see this new acquisition in your collection! You have so many incredible Royal Oaks and Offshores and some Codes, but to add this piece is really a phenomenal pickup for you. I'm excited to see it posted more in the future...
