Private advice from Audemars Piguet shareholder

Timekeeper99,

End of work day, eh? Someone somewhere on this planet is off duty

Drat! The rest of us are either starting work day or still in bed!  smile

I can barely see the scratches.

As others have said, it's not worth bothering until the next mechanical service, when a light polish can be done, while retaining the satin brush finish.

Officially, we are suppose to check water-resistance annually but service every 3 - 5 years.

I've never seen people do the annual check thing unless they are divers and depend on that rating.

One AP senior executive even told me not to send in for service until I notice timing issues.

But he was an unusual chap anyway and the family owned chunks of AP; not from the founding families.

Or did he know something we don't about servicing?

wink

Seeing that it came from AP! ☺️☺️

Well, officially it was not from AP because that person was not a watchmaker. And it was a personal opinion on his/her part. Then again, if his/her personal watches are damaged by this unauthorised behaviour, they have access to parts and experts in- hous...

Haha I wont hold it against AP no worries

But i got advise from my dealer along the same lines as you said so you’re not far off..i just like my watches shiny brand new I think so it bugs me when i see scratches. But then I’ll probably get a scratch or ding even after i get back from polish!! ...

Back from service, but I didn't have it buffed.

Doesn't bother me. I prefer not to stress about every knock a watch receives, it's part of the experience.. ...

Thanks for sharing

I agree that signs of usage do add some character to the watch..
