My Millenary...
May 06, 2018,08:02 AM
When I
started collecting back in the early '80s, AP was my favorite brand. At that
time the Royal Oak looked very dated to me, very obviously belonging to the
previous decade. It didn't appeal to me at all. So my first AP was a simple
gold automatic from what I believe they called their Classic Collection. That
watch is, sadly, long gone.
When I got back into active
collecting again, I was surprised to see that almost everything AP had to offer
was some version of the Royal Oak. I admit, that negatively changed my opinion
of the company that I had held in such high esteem all those years ago. Were
they now just some one-note manufacturer?
Then I found this first
generation Millenary and I fell in love all over again.
Of course, over time, I began to look at the Royal Oak in a new light. I now am drawn to its 'vintage' 1970s look. Wouldn't mind having a RO at all.

I have great admiration for the brand and consider the Royal Oak an iconic (and great) design. On my \'want to own\' list are the Royal Oak perpetual and the Jumbo. But it seems that, at least on this forum, there are far fewer Milenary, Jules Audemars, o...
The EOT seems to be fairly rare.

I love the design of the watch...very interesting dial and complication. I regret that I've never seen one personally. If I recall, the size seemed to be very close to what I prefer...a. It smaller than most of current models.

...a very bold design. The great thing about non-ROs is you rarely see them anywhere. I like that.
Certainly, AP is most known for Royal Oaks and Royal Oak Offshores.

But the other lines are quite dandy. I don't find it so atypical that a brand has some lines more popular than others; this would be true for many products and companies. Here are a few photos of some awesome non-octagonal Audemars Piguet watches. ...

...or at least a version of it in Chicago a few years back. I passed because was presented as ‘new’ but seemed to have a bit of wear. Also it was a ‘mall-type’ jeweler and while I’m sure they were authorized, it didn’t seem right. I first saw this one in ...
