Arnold Schwarzenegger Held At Munich Airport Customs Over Audemars Piguet Watch

Some may have already heard about Arnie's recent encounter with Munich Airport customs enroute to a fundraising dinner for Schwarzenegger’s climate initiative in the Austrian ski resort of Kitzbühel on Thursday - in his own quoted words:

This is the problem that Germany is suffering from. You can no longer see the forest for the trees,” Schwarzenegger told the paper. He said he had tried to explain to customs officials that the watch was being auctioned for a good cause, but to no avail."

The response from customs was apparently:

...A spokesman for the Munich Main Customs Office, Thomas Meister, explained to the German newspaper BILD: “We have initiated criminal proceedings under tax law. The watch should have been registered because it is an import. If the goods remain in the EU, you have to declare them through customs. This applies to everyone, whether their name is Schwarzenegger or Müller, Meier, Huber.”

Personally, the auction listing is curious - only 20 such pieces - admittedly I have not seen this variation of the recent Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph “End of Days” 43 mm  (Ref.26420CE.OO.A005VE.01) before.
