Inspired by docfink's recent acquisition of his new Jarno Trulli Offshore Chronograph (http://ap.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-3/pi-5799098/ti-854053/s-0/) I wanted to make a post showing some of the various strap options I have tried on the same piece. I should start by saying that changing the strap on an AP is not a simple process for most. I am fortunate to have the correct tools to do so, and lots of experience and background to feel comfortable doing so. Plus I am a bit stubborn and just like doing things myself ;-)
Anyways, the Trulli is provided on a great rubber strap and titanium deployant clasp. Ironically, it is the one combo I do not seem to have a photo of! I changed mine the first night and have not looked back.
I always find a strapless AP to be very sexy ;-)
I started with an extra Survivor rubber strap. I have found this strap pairs extremely well with many Offshores, and the Trulli is no exception.
Definitely gives a more serious look, carrying the large squares of the dial guilloche around the strap.
Regardless of the strap choice, I am just a big fan of tang buckles on a sport watch. Matched with these wider AP straps, the comfort is really amazing.
After a while on the Survivor rubber, I changed over to the Diver rubber. I feel its smooth texture is a better match, or maybe better said, is more congruent with the design intent of the Jarno Trulli Offshore. The watch is very refined, very clean and crisp. Only the dynamic properties of the forged carbon case are more industrial in appearance (which really goes so far in the overall success of this piece, setting off all of the other elements). So having such a clean rubber strap really blends well.
The strap follows the wrist very nicely.
For this combo, I use a blasted titanium AP tang buckle to match the strap plots.
Thinking I could give the JT just a little more pop and dress it up, I tried a custom Survivor hornback I ordered with red stitching. You really could order the stitching in black, grey, or white, and they would all work OK.
What pairs so well about this combo is the texture of the stap next to the case material. Now we have more of a modeled look.
Still superbly comfortable...
And on this setup I prefer a black buckle (also with the Survivor rubber strap I go for the black buckle).
So there you have some various looks at the Jarno Trulli Offshore on a few OEM AP straps. AP is the only brand I collect where I can say they choose just about the best strap option every time to supply with the watch. But, sometimes there are strong options available to change the look or feel of a piece. The Trulli is certainly an enthusiastic recipient of some of these great options.
