AP Service Question for Jumbo Royal Oak Jubilee Model

Aug 22, 2019,16:19 PM

I sent my Jumbo Royal Oak Jubilee (Ref. 14802) to AP in Florida for a full factory service. I received a call today from an AP representative to give me an estimate. They indicated that when they do the full service, they change out the crown and install new gaskets, etc., to make sure the case seals properly, etc. The replacement crown they use has an AP logo on it, while the original Jubilee reference does not. Would the replacement crown AP wants to install detract from the value of the watch? This model has increased in value over the past several years and I want to maintain originality to the greatest extent possible. If the conclusion is that I should not have them put on a replacement crown, I will tell them to leave the original crown in place. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

from my understanding, the jubilee RO were made in different batches and they may be fitted with different crown. In addition, I noticed that the Audemars Piguet near 12 o clock is different among the jubilee edition RO. Perhaps other owner of jubilee RO ...

Personally I believe all left the factory with the plain crown without AP letters. This is merely based on discussions with AP personnel, and all those which I have seen myself. I could be wrong of course!

I dealt with precisely the same situation 2 years ago with mine, with them. They simply will not give you the old crown back, and will not perform the service without replacing it. Personally I feel that the AP logo crown does not reduce the value and on ...

Thank you stabilizer. Would you mind sharing what can go wrong with the AP service process before I give AP the go-ahead with the service?

I doubt it makes much of a diff in desirability of the piece. Original is still an original but with about 1-1.5k pieces out there most of them have to be serviced again within the next ...

...decade. You can do that math of if it really dents any real value out of the piece. What you lose is probably gained by having a authorized serviced piece anyways.
