Audemars Piguet

Additional minor differences

In addition to the differences pointed out above (the micro tapisserie and the octagonal rotor of the 14802), there are some other small differences between the 14802 and 15202, if we really want to get specific:

The seconds track of the 15202 is a bit further out on the perimeter of the dial than it is on the 14802, now placed above or outside of the hour markers in 15202 whereas the seconds markers were printed somewhat in between the hours stick markers of the 14802, and for the first time the seconds track includes numbers and not just markers.

The font used for "Audemars Piguet" is different.  The transition to this new font occurred in the Jumbo, I believe, with the 14802 (platinum version only) and the 15002 (the last of the solid caseback Jumbos – the two references 14802 and 15002 were produced concurrently for several years during the mid-1990s according to several articles I have read).

The words "Swiss Made" appear on either side of the 6 o’clock stick marker on the 15202, and above the seconds track, whereas on the 14802, "Swiss Made" appears below the 6 o'clock stick marker and the seconds track.

Additionally the word "Automatic" moves up and is placed directly under the words "Audemars Piguet" for the 15202 from its earlier position above 6 o'clock in the 14802 (but back to its original position as it appeared on the dial of the 5402). I believe the font for the word “Automatic” is different between the two references.

The stick hour markers are a bit shorter on the 15202 than they were on the Jubilee 14802 and earlier references.

The crown on the 14802 is unsigned, I believe, while the crown on the 15202 is signed with “AP.”

We can also observe the painted outline (in black or white, depending on the dial color) around the date window introduced in the 15202 and absent in earlier references of the Jumbo. I also believe that the font used on the date wheel is different on the 15202 than the one used for earlier references of the 5402 or Jumbo. However, I think that the date font may have been changed by AP sometime during the production of the 15202, as I have seen photos of different 15202s with both the older and the newer font.

Of course, it may be obvious, but the 14802 has, for the first time on a Royal Oak (I believe), a see-through case back, which adds about 1mm of thickness to the overall case.

That seems to me a fair number of differences between the two references 14802 and 15202,but most of them are admittedly very minor and of note only to people really interested in collecting or at least closely observing the RO.

The above observations hold true for all of the examples I have seen thus far, but of course, dials have been switched on some ROs over the years during service by AP, and AP may have even made changes to dials during the production runs of the 14802 and 15202.  I don't think we can know for certain.

I would really appreciate it if anyone has additional or contradictory information to what I have written above to post it.  I think we would all rather have correct information posted.
