I recently noted that the surface of my AP dial started to rust. but the watch is running fine. Has anyone had the same experience? Should I do anything about it? Thanks. ...

I know that many would say that you are lucky, but this is an AP not a cheap Daytona, I would send it for service.

It probably lost the seal, fix it before you will have a bigger problem.

Here you go.

With the first picture I was thinking it is only near the crown, and water entered. But it is the whole dial and the watch is running. Best Walter

Waiting could be very very bad. Must have a busted bezel or crown gasket.

This is usually the case with most older APs. The paint used on dials isn't that durable unfortunately. It literally happens to most old models I've seen.

You either live with the aging or send it in for a dial change. I would definitely send it in. In the end it's not like you have a vintage piece that has a natural patina. Your case is way different. Best of luck, Laurent

Fellow members, I just received a quotation from AP. Good news is that they have the replacement part. The not so good news is that it is a huge bill. They quoted a service package which includes a change of dial and hands plus a full maintenance service ...

Understand your concerns.

But replacing the dial would mean opening up the watch and removing the hands. Not sure if it messes up the mechanism when they put it back together without a full service. Plus you do seem to have some issue with the seal and moisture is getting in, don'...

I'm afraid there is not a lot of choice here.....BUT skip the hands and polish

Irrespective of the fact that these machines can be so robust that they will run well despite the tricky conditions inside, and despite the last time service happened is but four years ago, you have had the misfortune to have quite a bit of a mess. You ne...
