Second time around...
Although I did try the original Dato with in the RG/Silver Dial combo...it just never did it for me. Always wanted to get my hands on the RG with Black Dial (notoriously hard to come by) and when AL&S announced during the past SIHH they were bringing this combo back in the larger case size, I felt my wallet get a little lighter. I've never been much of a colored metal fan, but for some reason this combo really does it for me.
Nearly eleven months later, with the help one of one of my good friends here in HK (you know who you are..thanks!)...Christmas came early for me..
There has been much debate over the case size and redesigned dial layout, but I really think this is one of the few redesign instances where the new is better than the old. The dial is IMO more balanced and the space allows for a less cluttered feel. I also prefer the baton indicators over the roman numerals. I also appreciate that Lange didn't just drop in the same (slightly smaller) L951.1 movement but designed an a new movement to complement the larger case size. Of course Lange didn't do anything to change the outlook of that beautiful movement and the depth and complexity is there to behold.
For the most past this one hasn't left my wrist for the past ten days... Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!
